Outreach Programs
....for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.
Matthew 25:35-37
Outreach Ministry
Outreach is an important part of our ministry at First Christian Church. We have heard God's call in our lives and want to share that Good News with our community and world. Often that Good News comes in the form of food, clothing and affordable housing. At other times the Good News is made known through taking a stand for justice and reconcilliation. We seek to witness to God's love in the world through a variety of ministries that reach out to our community, our nation and our world. These ministries include hands on mission projects as well as sharing our financial resources with those in need.
Local Ministry
First Christian Church helps share gifts with our community by serving monthly at Christ's Table. Join us on the fourth Saturday of each month as we prepare and serve a hot meal. We have an ongoing food collection that helps support the Food Pantry and East Side Community Ministries. The congregation has been actively involved in the annual Souper Bowl and Muskingum County CROP Walk and worked with Habitat for Humanity and Community Builds in their efforts to provide home improvements and affordable housing. Klothes for Kids is one of our annual Outreach Projects. We also support the ministries of Transitions Domestic Violence Shelter, the Salvation Army and many others.
Global Ministry
Through our denomination's Global Ministries, we contribute to help provide health care, food, clean water, job training, etc to God's children around the world. Week of Compassion enables us to help provide disaster relief wherever it may occur in our world. Together we can make a difference. Misson/Work Trips
In addition to local hands on mission projects, we have had two work groups help with hurricane recovery efforts on the Gulf Coast in 2007 and have an additional trip scheduled for fall of 2008. Our youth groups also take a mission trip each summer. The summer of 2008 trips will take them to California and West Virginia. These various trips have led us to a greater understanding of our call to share God's love with others.
